Training is never short of its challenges, and dealing with feet issues is just one of those challenges. 

After a disappointing run almost 9 months ago the decision was made to give Shambo a good spell and get on top of some issues which had been plaguing the talented son of Shamexpress.  It appears that patience is being rewarded after Shambo resumed yesterday with a dominant win at his home track, Mornington.

Luke Nolen took the ride in the 1200m event and rode it to perfection.  Taking up a nice trailing position mid field before peeling out wide in the straight to win by 0.75L. Luke came for one ride and made it count.

“Been awhile between runs for him and he’s a horse with a quite a lot of issues” said Clayton Douglas in his post-race interview. 

“The ownership group been great, been very patient, and after his last run he had really bad feet and been a big management job for a fair while now. I just said to the crew and whole team lets tip him out, give him a good break and bring him back and as you can see he’s come back in good order”.

“This horse has a good future and I think he’s better than average.  Very talented horse, ability theres, it’s just managing his issues” said Douglas.

Shambo was purchased by Clayton as a 2yr old from the NZB Ready to Run sale in 2021 and is raced in partnership with a loyal group of clients.  Always showing ability, the lightly raced 4yr old has won 2 races from only 8 starts and looks to have returned in great order. 

This latest win is a highlight for all the team involved in his management and care over the extended break, including Willo Park where Shambo spent much of the time spelling.  A big thanks to everyone involved and we look forward to his Summer campaign.
