Knockout blow by Title Fighter

12:00 • Sunday • 18 May 2025

Title Fighter delivered a remarkable upset victory in the Listed Hilton Nicholas Straight Six (1200m) as a 71-1 outsider under apprentice jockey Tom Prebble.  A career defining win for both horse and rider with their shared first stakes win. Trainer Clayton Douglas was effusive in his praise for Prebble's ride, stating “He rode it a treat. You couldn’t have asked for a better ride honestly. He was nice and quiet on him early. “He’s got a big future this kid.” For Prebble, the victory was particularly special, marking his first stakes win for the talented apprentice and a significant milestone in his burgeoning career,  especially as his father, former champion international jockey Brett Prebble, was on course. "I just see every race as the next and I want to win all of them," Prebble said. "When I got the opportunity to ride in a Listed race, I just took the opportunity. It unfolded awesomely.” Clayton was equally impressed with the effort of Title Fighter.  “We knocked back big offers from Hong Kong early on, to be honest I thought the owner was mad, and now he’s won a stakes race up the straight. It’s been a long, hard process to teach him to switch off and he’s now got strings to his bow. He’s only 4 and he’s done a terrific job this campaign” said Douglas. The trainer also reflected on his season to date “I’ve had a really good season to be honest. I’ve got Giga Kick who’s my class horse for the stable, this guy’s now won a stakes race,  I’ve had a 2yr old stakes winner, we’re ticking along really well and I’m really happy with all the staff and how hard they’re working. It good to get a result for everyone”  The team was thrilled to give Tom the opportunity and both horse and rider lived up to expectations. Title Fighter's triumph in the Straight Six was his first stakes win and took his earnings to over $550,000.

Wealthy Breaks Through with Impressive Maiden Win at Mornington

12:00 • Monday • 28 April 2025

Wealthy claimed her maiden victory in style at Mornington today, producing a strong front-running performance to take out the $27,000 3YO Maiden Set Weights over 1200m. Rated perfectly by jockey Daniel Moor, the promising Rich Enuff filly held off all challengers to defeat Tuscaloosa Gem, scoring at just her second career start. “I think she’s got nice potential this filly, I think she’s going to be alright in time…and a bit more cut in the ground should really suit her as well” said Clayton Douglas. “She’s a lovely style of filly, I think she’s got a nice future ahead of her. I don’t think the blinkers are probably going to be her trick forever, I think they can come back off, but it’s good to get the win second up for her.” The win also carried a lucrative VOBIS Silver Owner Bonus, boosting Wealthy’s earnings to over $38,000 from only two starts — an impressive return early in her career. By Rich Enuff, a Group 2-winning son of Written Tycoon, Wealthy boasts a quality pedigree. Her dam, Momma’s Snitzel, adds further depth to her bloodlines as a daughter of the outstanding sire Snitzel. Adding further prestige, Wealthy races in the iconic silks of Barrie and Midge Griffiths — legendary stable and industry supporters known for their sharp eye for elite fillies and mares. Their colours have been carried by some of Australia’s finest Group 1 winners, including Mannerism, Tawrrific, Northwood Plume, Response, and Booker. With her impressive Mornington performance and strong pedigree, Wealthy looks to have a bright future ahead.Congratulations to everyone involved.

Foxenberg lives up to expectations on debut

12:00 • Saturday • 29 March 2025

Starting a $1.28 favourite on debut can bring added pressure, and it did for the Clayton Douglas team at Cranbourne Friday night with high expectations of one particular runner. The 3yr old gelding Foxenberg had taken time to mature but dominant wins in two jumpouts in the lead up suggested his trainers patience was going to be rewarded...and it was in impressive style. Jumping from barrier 3, in form jockey Daniel Stackhouse let the gelding roll to the front in the 5 horse field.  Coming into the straight the pressure was put on by the Matt Laurie runner, Central Bank, but with a bit of encouragement the big son of Foxwedge dug deep and strode away to win by 1.75 L.  Even more impressive, his win on debut was less than half a second outside the track record (57.81) over the 1000m. Daniel Stackhouse was full of praise for the horse. “Began well, (I) just let him flow, just left him alone and be a happy horse, when he got pressure to the outside he switched on. He’s still very lost and raw and immature, still got no idea. Nice win and great debut for stable and he’ll definitely go on with it” said Stackhouse. His trainer was equally complimentary. “ I think he’ll get 1400m in time and if he does he’s going to be a pretty serious horse for the stable. He’s a nice, big solid type and he has nice ability. He’s been really slow maturing, gone shin sore a couple of times. He’s a horse that can fire up really quick and when he does he’s a really hard horse to get back. It was really nice to see him relax the way he did in front and give himself a chance, and when that horse challenged he had to knuckle down a little bit and obviously come away with a good win” said Douglas. A $55,000 purchase from the Inglis Premier Sale, he was bred by Andrew Roussou who stayed in the ownership. Congratulations to a great group of co-owners and loyal stable supporters - Clayton Douglas Racing , Mr A Roussou, Double W, Mr B B Hughes, Mrs A G Dewar, Birkland, Noosa Ninjas, Toe Racing, Ms J Crewes, Mr R W Webb, M Raynor, Mr B C Wolens

City win for No Limitation

12:00 • Thursday • 27 March 2025

A speedy filly by Exceedance gave Clayton Douglas his first 2yr old winner for the season with a brave win at Sandown yesterday. No Limitation had 2 previous starts in smart company, including the Group 3 Blue Diamond Fillies’ Preview,  where she finished sixth in both.  A short freshen up at Fulmen Park had the filly in great order heading to Sandown and at only her third career start she had a city win on the board. The plan wasn’t to lead in the 1000m event but No Limitation was simply too speedy from barrier 3 and put herself there. Luke Currie then rated the filly perfectly from the front and was able to hold off a fast finishing field. "I thought Luke rode her well, rated her really well out in front. She was probably needing the line late, but obviously with the six weeks between runs, she's probably got nice improvement in it” said Douglas. “Good to get a win for Barrie and Midge Griffiths, they’ve been good supporters for the stable and (they’re) obviously very famous colours. Barrie purchased her (No Limitation) himself and really liked her, and we have the sister at home so looking forward to the future with this family.” No Limitation (Exceedance x Pierro Belle) was a $34,000 purchase from the Inglis HTBA yearling sale.  In an interesting twist both Luke Currie and Clayton Douglas had ridden the mother of No Limitation,  Pierro Belle,  in one of her 4 race wins before starting a stud career. Congratulations to great supporters in Barrie and Midge Griffiths and thanks to the hard working team at home.
